BEGINNING
For as long as I can remember I have loved being creative. Watching Blue Peter, Art Attack and Smart were a MUST throughout my childhood. No cardboard box was safe!
Neither of my parents are artsy, my mum is a radiographer and my dad an accountant my creative genes come from a previous generation. My Great Grandmother was a talented dress designer and seamstress.
At school, my stronger subjects alongside art were maths and the sciences, it was my desire to communicate using design and pictures that led to me studying graphic design at Nottingham Trent University. I’m skilled in animation, illustration, screen printing and book binding. I know how to use graphic design to develop individual style.
I’m a dog lover and a long suffering Stoke City fan.
WORK
After graduating, alongside bar work, I created posters, invites, tickets and special occasion cards for friends and family. At the pub, simple menus designs for new owners led to me producing a full business rebrand. I also gained valuable experience effectively managing the relationship with printers.
It was the quality of this work that landed me the role of Junior Graphic Designer for a local print and design company.
Within 6 years I became senior graphic designer and took responsibility for the business as a whole.
It was hereI learned a lot about how people communicate their ideas and how to interpret them into something useful. I learned that a personal style is great but being adaptable and flexible is much more useful to clients. I also learned about the importance to clients of a business relationship.
EDGE DESIGN
Post pandemic when the print & design company decided to close when a property development opportunity arose. Since graduating, going it alone has always been a temptation.
I still had clients needing design work doing and as I kept saying yes more and more came along.
Since then my confidence has grown as have my business relationship skills. I’m now confident running my own business. I am currently working with The Prince's Trust in their young entrepreneurs programme. They are providing me with valuable advice on how I develop my client spectrum.
I should have done this before, I’m loving it
